Keynotes and workshops

Your room, his whole attention.

Every keynote is rebuilt for the people in the seats. Here is what Brian brings, how long it takes, and what your team needs from him.

Each talk has a spine that does not change and a body that does. Brian learns your audience on a call, then builds the stories, examples and language around them.

Brian Germain speaking — Transcending Fear

Keynote · Signature talk

Transcending Fear

Every audience is afraid of something. The quarter. The reorg. The new system nobody asked for. The conversation they have been avoiding since spring. Most talks about fear tell people to be brave. This one shows them what fear is actually for, and how to aim it.

Brian spent thirty years watching people meet fear at an open door, and learned that the ones who did it well were not fearless. They had a method. Name it, breathe, decide what matters in the next ten seconds, then move. He teaches that method, on stage, with the stories that earned it.

  • A working definition of fear that people can use in a meeting on Monday.
  • A three-step reset for the moment right before a hard thing.
  • Permission to say it out loud. Teams that name fear together move faster than teams that don't.
Length 45 to 60 minutesAlso as half-day workshopBest for sales kickoffs, leadership summits, all-hands

Brian Germain speaking — Leadership under pressure

Keynote · For leaders

Leadership under pressure

Everyone has worked for the person who got calmer as things got worse. Almost nobody has been told how that person got that way. This talk is that explanation, and a plan for building it in everyone who reports to you.

The core idea: people follow the steadiest nervous system in the room. Steadiness is not a personality. It is trained, it is contagious, and it is the most under-taught skill in leadership. Brian shows how to train it in yourself, and how to make it the culture instead of a lucky trait of one manager.

  • The pressure ladder. Where your team actually breaks, and the rung before it.
  • Two habits for leaders that lower the temperature of every room they walk into.
  • A debrief format that turns a bad week into a better team.
Length 45 to 60 minutesAlso as executive workshop, firesideBest for executive teams, healthcare, first responders, operations

Brian Germain speaking — Adaptive performance

Keynote · For teams that change

Adaptive performance

Plans are made in a room. Results happen somewhere else, in conditions that changed after the plan was written. High-consequence work has a discipline for this: read the conditions, change the plan, keep the goal. Brian translates it for the work your people do.

It is a talk about the difference between commitment and stubbornness, and how to build teams that can tell them apart under pressure. Practical, story-led, and unusually good for rooms full of engineers, operators and skeptics.

  • A conditions check your team can run in sixty seconds before any big move.
  • The go / no-go conversation, and how to have it without anyone losing face.
  • What to keep when everything else changes.
Length 45 to 60 minutesAlso as half-day workshop, virtualBest for associations, universities, product and operations teams
